Did you run into that with the transfer dump one I posted? I just ended up deleting the post because I didn't feel like editing it.

Many old US trucks didn't have front brakes at all. And the inside of the front wheel look pretty empty to me. So he could have applied small amount of brake to limit the wheel rotation while still accelerating. It's not a bulletproof solution but it might have worked.

Say what? I've only driven European trucks, and they've all had brakes at the front, the notion of NOT having brakes at the front seems rather stupid if you ask me. But yeah, if that's the case he should've tried that.

I think the brakeless front axles were quite common in semi trailer tractors in 70's but I have heard that other type of US trucks were without front brakes too in 60's. At some point they became mandatory but I'm not sure when.

I have seen at least one imported US truck that didn't have front brakes here in Finland. I'm not sure how they managed to register it.

It was thought the front axle was so lightly loaded that the brakes weren't very effective.

Ahh.. you're in Finland.. Norway says hello :)

I guess this was before anyone thought about weight transfer then, I sure as hell would not drive a semi without front brakes.
